The Algerian National Theater TNA (in Arabic المسرح الوطني الجزائري) is a center of educational and cultural creation installed in the old opera of Algiers, 10, Rue Hadj Omar in Algiers.
The theater has been the residence of the Algerian National Ballet since 1963.
The opera is built from May 1850 to September 1853 by the architects Charles Frédéric Chassériau and Justin Ponsard in a neo-baroque style. It was inaugurated on September 29, 1853. On March 19, 1882, a fire destroyed the opera but the exterior walls were spared. It is rebuilt the following year.
In the years, the renovation of the theater is the subject of a national competition whose Algerian architects Raymond Taphoureau and Emmanuel Guermonprez are the winners. The work begun in 1937 ended in 1939. The Pan-African Music Festival in 1969 is also the occasion for new works.
